Private in the Revolutionary Army in 22 Sept 1777; Northern Dept. and was discharged 2 Oct 1777. He went back to Massachusetts where he formed the Committee of State Security. He was a minuteman of the Lexington Alarm. According to the census, he was in Hubardstown, Mass. in 1790; in 1795, he settled Erie, PA. The 1810 census puts him in Steuben Co., New York with his son, Jos.Jr. His grave is in the old abandoned Shadduck Cemetery on their farm, however, his gravestone is missing. Jos.Sr and Abigail Fairbanks died within a week of each other from Typhus.

never left. (She would have been about 16.) She is a cousin to the
Shadducks, her brother married Nabbie's daughter, Elizabeth.
